GeneWeb keyboard shortcuts

Most GeneWeb commands are accessible through a keyboard shortcut. Note that some browsers may take precedence over GeneWeb and have their own shortcuts taking precedence over those of GeneWeb. Sometimes, the lowercase shortcut is superseeded, but the uppercase one remains active.

As for typing, uppercase is obtained by pressing simultaneouslya letter and the Maj key. Le letetr A is obtained by holding the keys Maj + a.

These shortcuts, defined in GeneWeb version 5.02 may not be active anymore with version 7.xx. To be verified!!

Personal page :

• Search for a path between individuals : Alt + R = Alt + Maj + r.
• Update: Alt + U (Update).
  • Update family: Alt + F (only first relation).
  • Update person: Alt + P.
  • Add mariage: Alt + A.

Paths between persons:

• // Display a section : Alt + / (does not work with trees).
• >> Next path: Alt + >.
• Return to the welcome page (?, a href=%prefix) : Alt + T.

Message du forum:

• Retour à la racine: Alt + F
• Message suivant: Alt + N.
• Message précédent: Alt.
•  ?? : Alt + 1.

Templm additional shortcuts

The following shortcuts are active within the templm template.

With the Alt key

• Search (if available at the bottom of the page): Alt + ².

Personal page

• Add parents: Alt + L.
• Update second family: Alt + G.
• Update third family: Alt + H.
• Allow direct shortcuts: Alt + W.

Update a person form

• Position cursor on the profession field: Alt + P.
• Position the cursor on a specific zone (first field): Alt + # where # is the zone number:
  • Alt + 1: person.
  • Alt + 2: birth.
  • Alt + 3: baptism.
  • Alt + 4: death.
  • Alt + 5: inhumation.
  • Alt + 6: titles.
  • Alt + 7: relation.
  • Alt + 8: notes.
• Quick selection of « Deceased » rapidement : Alt + 4 (death field) then +.

Update a family form

• Go to a specific zone : Alt + # where # is the zone number:
  • Alt + 1: family.
  • Alt + 2: mariage.
  • Alt + 3: witness.
  • Alt + 4: children.
• Quick navigation between first-name/last-name/sex/dates (family and children zones):
  • Alt + <. 
  • Alt + >.
  • Alt + _.
  • * (simpler capture of dates with numerical keypad).

 Direct shortcuts

If javaScript is available on your machine, it is possible to use direct shortcuts without having to press the key Alt. To allow for these direct shortcuts, one must have the cursor positioned in the empty box at the upper right (to the left of ÷) as is the case when opening an personal page. Alt + W positions the cursor on this box if it is not already there. positioning the mouse over this box will display a help menu.

• Personal page, direct acces:
  • same as above, without the Alt key, both upper and lower case:
    • ²: search.
    • P ou p: update person.
    • F ou f: update first spouse.
    • G ou g: update second spouse.
    • H ou h: update third spouse.
    • L ou l: add parents.
    • A ou a: add family.
    • Y ou y: ascending or descending tree.
  • select a close relation and open his/her update page:
    • 2 ou é: father.
    • 3 ou ": mother.
    • 4 ou ': father's father.
    • 5 ou (: father's mother.
    • 6 ou -: mother's father.
    • 7 ou è: mother's mother.
    • 1 ou &: navigate between siblings (brothers and sisters)
    • 0 ou à: navigate between spouses.
    • 8 ou _: navigate between children.
    • 9 ou ç: navigate between Sosa.
    • Entrée: opens the personal page of the selected person.
    • P ou p: open the update form of the selected person.

By default, selected children are those from the first family. To select children of the other families, one must first navigate to the right spouse. For instance, to update the third child of the third spouse, one will enter: 0 0 0 8 8 8 P (or à à à ç ç ç p).

These shortcuts are adjusted for the AZERTY keyboard layout, if they do not work to your liking with your browser, you may edit the file js_perso_accesskey.txt in folder gw/etc/templm/.
